Blackjacks and slapjacks were once normal in law enforcement. Today they are far less common, and for very good reason.

Today we are looking at some of the concerns with using lead weighted impact weapons on the job and some better options that cost the same or less than a blackjack.

For price comparison:

blackjack: 15.99

Short baton: $13.50

collapsible baton: $13.85

...all the cheapest prices I could find and all about the same size and weight when closed. The asp knockoff giving even more reach when extended and for a little less money.

Police firearms training is often a contentious topic. Every instructor has a technique to sell, often at the expense of another instructor or school of thought. I challenge you to reconsider the conventions that are almost universal in the firearms training community by considering their implications for the real world of the street.
